Cancer Survival Rates - A Post Code Lottery
I was diagnosed iwith lung cancer in December last year and I am now officially terminal.I blame my GP for my current condition.
I complained of chest problems for over two years prior to the diagnosis and made numerous trips to my GP but it wasn’t until I was coughing up large amounts of blood that I was sent for a CT scan.
On more than one occasion I wasn’t even examined and the GP simply gave me yet another prescription for anti-biotics.
I am so disgusted I will be making a complaint to the GMC.
I have no doubt I would not now be terminal had the cancer been spotted sooner.
Not all cancers are detectable by X Ray alone, mine is one.
At one stage my GP even refused to send me for an x ray stating I’d had one a year earlier which gave me the all clear.
This was despite the fact I’d started coughing up small amounts of blood.
Once again he simply wrote out another prescription for anti - biotics. This was two months before I was diagnosed with a lung tumour.
By now I was coughing up cup fulls of blood which was traumatic to say the least.
I made an appointment with an alternative GP who sent me for an immediate X Ray.
Once again nothing was shown on the X Ray so I was then sent for a CT scan followed by a bronchoscopy.
This showed I had an advanced tumour in the right bronchial tube, too close to the heart for surgery to be an option.
I should point out that my cancer was not caused by smoking, it is a genetic condition, my lungs are actually in great shape.
Once the cancer was diagnosed and I came under the care of Maidstone Oncolgy my treatment was excellent and although they tried their best, by now the cancer was too far advanced.

NHS TARGETS DEFENDED AFTER FAILINGS
"The Health Secretary has defended the Government's targets for the NHS in the wake of failings at several hospitals.
Andy Burnham told the Commons the best hospitals were providing "high-quality, safe care" as well as meeting performance targets, such as seeing A&E patients within four hours".
An unacceptable number of people have died on your watch Mr Burnham.
And its clear the watchdog you set up is not acting in the interests of the patients.
If you were an honourable man you'd resign.
But there is no honour in this government.
Just a bunch of greedy "swine" with their snouts in the trough.

Shamed: the top hospitals with the worst death rates
"The three hospitals with the highest patient death rates in the country can be named, amid a deepening crisis over the standard of care in the NHS.
Bolton, Greater Manchester and Basildon NHS trusts have elite “foundation status”. However, The Sunday Telegraph has learned that statistics to be published this week will show a higher percentage of patients died while in their care in 2008-09 than in any other trusts in the country".
"The leading children’s hospital Alder Hey has been issued with a “warning notice” for breaching basic infection standards and putting vulnerable young patients at risk of killer infections – just two weeks after the trust declared itself “the best in the country”.

Swine Flu
Last week I was called twice by my GP's receptionist asking if I would come in for the Swine Flu Jab despite having already told them I wasn't interested.
With so many doctors and nurses, plus experts in the field opposed to the jab, I wondered why my GP was so keen for me to have it.
It didn't take long to find the answer.

As one of those considered to be at high risk I spent a lot of time researching on the Internet before I made my decision not to take up the offer of the jab.
Here are my reasons for rejecting the offer.
1) The dangers of swine flu have been grossly exaggerated, far more people die from normal flu.
2) There has been a concerted effort to hide the true facts regarding swine flu. Many in the health profession and some highly respected scientists have stated they will not be taking the vaccine and have given their reasons why yet you'll see very little information in the mainstream media.
3) There are additives in the vaccine which are known to be potentially harmful and there has not been enough time to test the vaccine properly. Many drugs don't appear on the pharmacy shelves until they've passed stringent tests, why is this one being pushed on us so vigorously when the danger is relatively small?
My advice to you is do your own research and decide for yourself if you think it's a risk worth taking.
One fact that does bother me is why have no animals been found to be infected with swine flu?
Where did it come from?
Could this be the answer?

Hospital Equipment 'Splattered With Blood' at Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in Essex
"An expert task force is to investigate after inspectors found an unusually high death rate among patients at an NHS hospital in Essex.
There were blood stains on floors and curtains, blood splattered on trays used to carry equipment and badly soiled mattresses in the A&E department with stains soaked through".
FULL STORY HERE
A previous report gave them a high rating, obviously they only clean up when they know the inspectors are coming.
However they do have a history of negligence where patients are concerned.
"As long ago as 2001, conditions at Basildon were described as “Third World” by the Royal College of Nursing because of a shortage of beds. Then, in 2004, Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was fined for failing to control the risk of legionnaire’s disease after a patient contracted the illness — weeks later tests showed the legionella bacteria were still present.
Last year, more than 200 new mothers were offered HIV tests after the Trust discovered that a member of staff who had delivered their babies was HIV positive, and in April this year a three-year-old girl died in the paediatric ward after intravenous drip bags were found to have been sabotaged. In 2007, the Trust admitted being at fault in the case of a child who was left disabled after she was starved of oxygen when she was born at Basildon Hospital in 2001".
So who is responsible for this outrage?
Board of Directors
Board of Governors
Board of Clinical Directors
The old phrase "Too many cowboys and not enough indians" comes to mind.
It never ceases to amaze me that many of those running our hospitals have no clinical experience at all.
For instance what does a former estate agent have to offer where hospitals are concerned?
Between them, the board members earn salaries of £820,000, with all receiving pay rises of up to 24 per cent in the year 2008 to 2009. Highest paid is the medical director Dr Stephen Morgan, on £210,000 a year, followed by chief executive Alan Whittle on £150,000 a year. Director of nursing Maggie Rogers is on £105,000 a year.

SICK & TWISTED NHS
You might think that a man with a terminal illness who relies on the NHS to stay alive would be a lot less critical.
But this story in the News of the World is pretty typical of the madness that's taken over at the N.H.S.
Decisions are being made by those who have no clinical experience which are affecting the lives of people in this country.
NHS bosses have secretly splashed out £1million of taxpayers' money - to STOP desperate patients getting life-saving drugs.
SICK & TWISTED NHS
The drug I'm currently taking for lung cancer was previously blocked and only recently became available although it's been used in the U.S for years.
Not only is this drug keeping me alive it's also improved my "Quality of Life".
If you met me in a pub you would not know I was terminally ill.
Without this drug it's possible I might already be deceased.
The N.H.S has been taken over by a bunch of bureaucrats who have no concept of patient care.
So, while I have the utmost respect for my consultant Dr Taylor at Medway, and also for the Mcmillan Nurses who have treated me with nothing but love and kindness, I have to say the N.H.S sucks.
The cash wasted every year on employing yet more "Managers" and then sending these managers on Common Purpose Training courses which at best are questionable, would be better spent on patient care.
